The IC-705 is a portable all-band all-mode amateur radio transceiver covering HF through 440 MHz — 160m to 6m, 2m, and 70cm - in SSB, CW, RTTY, AM, FM, and D-STAR DV. TX covers all US amateur bands from 160m (1.8 MHz) through 70cm (450 MHz): HF, 6m, 2m, and 70cm in a single compact unit. FCC Licensing and Compliance Support
The IC-705 is an amateur radio transceiver certified under FCC Part 97. Transmitting on amateur radio frequencies in the United States requires a valid Amateur Radio License issued by the FCC.
Three license classes are available: Technician, General, and Amateur Extra — each granting progressively broader HF band access. Technician licensees have full 2m and 70cm transmit privileges but limited HF access. General and Amateur Extra licensees have full access to the HF bands covered by the IC-705.

FAQ
What is the difference between 5W and 10W operation on the IC-705?
10W output requires an external 13.8V DC power supply connected via the OPC-2421 cable (included). The BP-272 Li-ion battery (included) provides up to 5W output and approximately 3 hours of operation at a 1:1:8 TX:RX:standby ratio. The optional BP-307 (3150 mAh) extends battery runtime. Power output is adjustable down to 0.5W for QRPp operation.
Does the IC-705 have a built-in antenna tuner?
No. The IC-705 does not include a built-in antenna tuner. The optional AH-705 automatic antenna tuner (1.8–50 MHz, 10W max.) connects directly to the IC-705 via the CI-V/tuner control port and integrates with the front panel TUNER function. For VHF/UHF operation a tuner is generally not required with properly matched antennas.
What digital modes does the IC-705 support?
Built-in modes: D-STAR DV, RTTY (with built-in decoder). The IC-705 also supports FT8, PSK31, Winlink, and other PC-based digital modes via the USB audio/serial interface — no external soundcard interface required. One-touch FT8 preset memory is included for fast mode switching. Wi-Fi connectivity enables fully wireless PC digital mode operation.
