Icom IC-F6021 Vehicle-Mounted Mobile UHF Analog Radio (400–512 MHz)

Icom IC-F6021 vehicle-mounted mobile UHF radio
Icom IC-F6021 vehicle-mounted mobile UHF radio

The Icom IC-F6021 is a vehicle-mounted mobile radio for UHF land mobile operation. Dashboard-installed and powered from a 12V DC vehicle supply, it delivers 45W output across 128 channels in 8 zones — with MDC 1200, 2-Tone, 5-Tone, CTCSS, and DTCS built in. The aluminum die-cast chassis meets MIL-STD-810 C/D/E/F and fits fleet vehicles operating on UHF frequencies. Two frequency sub-bands are available: 400–470 MHz (F6021 51) and 450–512 MHz (F6021 52) — both identical in hardware and function, differing only in the programmed frequency range.

Why Professionals Choose the Icom IC-F6021

The IC-F6021 is a vehicle-mounted mobile radio — 150×40×167.5mm, 1.1 kg — built on the same aluminum die-cast chassis as the IC-F5021 VHF companion. The compact 40mm height fits standard DIN console positions in fleet vehicles, service trucks, and site vehicles running UHF infrastructure. Two sub-band versions cover the full commercial UHF land mobile range: 400–470 MHz (F6021 51) for standard UHF business and public safety frequencies, and 450–512 MHz (F6021 52) for operations in the upper UHF band including GMRS-adjacent and extended commercial frequencies.

RF output is 45W (Hi) / 25W (Mid) / 5W (Lo) on the selected UHF band with 12.5 kHz and 15 kHz channel spacing — both compliant with FCC Part 90 narrowband requirements. Channel capacity is 128 across 8 zones with 8-character alphanumeric channel names on the front LCD. TX current draw is 14.0A at full power, compatible with standard 12V vehicle electrical systems.

Signaling coverage is identical to the IC-F5021: CTCSS, DTCS, 2-Tone (up to 10 codes per channel), 5-Tone (up to 8 codes), and MDC 1200 with PTT ID, radio check, stun, revive, and emergency TX/RX. The 4W front-mounted speaker faces the vehicle operator directly for clear audio at road noise levels without requiring an external speaker.

The aluminum die-cast chassis meets MIL-STD-810 C/D/E/F for shock, vibration, and temperature, with an operating range of –30°C to +60°C. A 40-pin option slot accepts internal optional units including voice scrambler (UT-109R / UT-110R) and DTMF decoder (UT-108R).

The IC-F6021 is designed as a direct companion to the Icom IC-F4021 UHF portable handheld — sharing channel plans, signaling formats, programming software, and voice scrambler format for seamless mixed fleet operation. FCC Part 90 certified for UHF land mobile.

FCC Licensing and Compliance Support

Operating a mobile two-way radio on UHF land mobile frequencies in the United States requires an FCC license under Part 90. The Icom IC-F6021 is FCC Part 90 certified for UHF vehicle-mounted mobile operation. The F6021 51 covers 400–470 MHz; the F6021 52 covers 450–512 MHz. A Business Radio License (or appropriate Industrial/Business Pool authorization) is required before the radio can transmit, and the license specifies which frequencies and power levels are authorized for your operation.

The IC-F6021 operates on 12.5 kHz and 15 kHz channel spacing, both compliant with current FCC Part 90 narrowband requirements. When ordering, confirm which sub-band SKU matches your licensed frequencies - the two variants cannot be field-converted between bands.

Programming to licensed frequencies is done via Icom's CS-F6021 software and an OPC-series programming cable. The optional OPC-1939 ACC cable adds external channel control capability — useful for dispatch setups where the radio channel is selected from an external controller rather than the front panel.

As an authorized Icom dealer, AXDIGITAL assists customers with FCC Part 90 licensing guidance, frequency coordination, and radio programming for vehicle fleet deployments. Contact our team before ordering to confirm which sub-band applies to your licensed frequencies and to arrange programming support.

FAQ

What is the difference between the F6021 51 and F6021 52?

Frequency sub-band only. The F6021 51 covers UHF 400–470 MHz; the F6021 52 covers 450–512 MHz. All other specifications — power output, channel capacity, signaling, dimensions, and MIL-STD rating — are identical. Order the variant that matches your FCC-licensed frequencies. The two cannot be reprogrammed to switch bands after purchase.

What is the difference between the IC-F6021 and IC-F5021?

The IC-F6021 is the UHF version (400–512 MHz, 45W); the IC-F5021 is the VHF version (136–174 MHz, 50W). Both share the same chassis, feature set, channel capacity, signaling, and MIL-STD rating. Choose the model that matches your infrastructure's frequency band. The IC-F6021 is designed as a companion to the IC-F4021 UHF portable; the IC-F5021 pairs with the IC-F3021 VHF portable.

Can the IC-F6021 be used as a base station?

Yes, with a regulated 13.6V DC power supply capable of 14.0A continuous TX current. An external power supply such as the ICT CS120-20AG converts 110V AC to the required DC and fits in the ICT IAPS04 base station housing, which is designed specifically to house the IC-F6021 as a fixed desk or dispatch station. Contact AXDIGITAL to confirm current availability of the base station bundle.
