Icom IC-M330G Compact Fixed-Mount VHF Marine Radio with GPS (Black / White)

Icom IC-M330G compact marine radio with GPS
Icom IC-M330G compact marine radio with GPS

The Icom IC-M330G is a compact fixed-mount VHF marine radio with built-in GPS for vessels with limited helm space. At 156.5×66.5×88.2mm and 730g, it delivers 25W output with Class D DSC, a dedicated CH70 receiver, IPX7 waterproofing, and AquaQuake™ speaker draining. The built-in GPS/GLONASS/SBAS receiver uses the supplied external puck antenna (5m cable) to provide independent position data for DSC distress calls — without relying on a chartplotter. Available in Black (M330 31) and White (M330 41).

Why Professionals Choose the Icom IC-M330G

The IC-M330G is a compact fixed-mount marine radio with built-in GPS — 156.5×66.5×88.2mm, 730g — for vessels where both space and independent navigation are constraints. The palm-sized chassis installs in tight console positions where standard fixed-mounts cannot fit, while the built-in GPS/GLONASS/SBAS receiver operates independently of the chartplotter. The supplied puck antenna (5m cable) mounts on deck for a clear sky view; once installed, the radio has a continuous, independent position source for DSC distress calls that functions even if the MFD or chartplotter loses power.

RF output is 25W (Hi) / 1W (Lo) across USA, Canadian, and international VHF marine channels, including NOAA weather channels with weather alert. The dedicated CH70 receiver monitors Channel 70 for DSC calls continuously — even while the radio operates on a working channel. Class D DSC covers distress, individual, group, all ships, urgency, safety, position request/report, polling, and test calls. Receiver selectivity and intermodulation both exceed 70 dB on the main receiver.

AquaQuake™ vibrates the speaker grille to expel trapped water after wave wash or rain, preventing muffled audio after submersion. IPX7 protection covers 1 meter for 30 minutes. Audio output is 4.5W typical into 4Ω — sufficient for open helm stations without an external speaker.

NMEA 0183 input (RMC, GGA, GNS, GLL, VTG) also accepts position data from a chartplotter as an alternative or backup GPS source. NMEA output (DSC, DSE, RMC, GSA, GSV) sends DSC event data and position sentences to connected navigation equipment. The IC-M330G is compatible with the Icom MA-500TR Class B AIS transponder for integrated AIS display and DSC calling from AIS targets. FCC Part 80 certified for USA VHF marine operation.

FCC Licensing and Compliance Support

The Icom IC-M330G is FCC Part 80 certified for USA VHF marine channels. For recreational vessels operating exclusively on domestic USA inland and coastal waters, no operator license is required. A Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit is required when operating on international waters or at foreign ports.

DSC distress calling requires an MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) number programmed into the radio before the distress function is active. For USA recreational vessels, MMSI registration is free through BoatUS (www.boatus.com/mmsi) or Sea Tow. Commercial vessels register MMSI through the FCC directly. The MMSI is a unique 9-digit number tied to your vessel.

The IC-M330G built-in GPS/GLONASS/SBAS receiver automatically embeds your vessel's position coordinates into every DSC distress call — including in scenarios where the chartplotter or MFD has lost power. The supplied puck antenna mounts on deck; once installed, the position source operates independently of all other electronics aboard. This makes the IC-M330G the recommended option for single-handed sailors, offshore passages, and any vessel where chartplotter reliability in an emergency cannot be assumed.

As an authorized Icom marine dealer, AXDIGITAL assists customers with FCC Part 80 requirements, MMSI registration guidance, and GPS antenna installation for their vessel. Contact our team before installation to confirm the correct configuration for your operating area.

FAQ

What is the difference between the IC-M330G and IC-M330?

The IC-M330G has a built-in GPS/GLONASS/SBAS receiver with a supplied external puck antenna (5m cable). It provides independent position data for DSC distress calls without requiring a connected chartplotter. The IC-M330 has no built-in GPS — it relies on NMEA 0183 input from a chartplotter for position. All RF specifications, DSC features, dimensions, and protection ratings are identical between the two models.

Does the GPS puck antenna need to be mounted on deck?

Yes. The supplied puck antenna requires a clear view of the sky to acquire GPS, GLONASS, and SBAS signals. It should be mounted on deck or a horizontal surface with minimal obstruction above. The 5m cable gives reasonable routing flexibility from the radio to an outdoor mounting position. Avoid mounting inside the cabin where the antenna cannot see the sky.

Does the color choice affect any specification?

No. The M330 31 (Black) and M330 41 (White) are identical in all RF specifications, GPS capability, DSC features, dimensions, weight, and protection rating. The only practical difference is the supplied hand microphone color: HM-235B (Black) or HM-235W (White).
