The Hytera MD622i is a vehicle-mounted mobile radio for the VHF 136–174 MHz band. It runs in both Analog and Digital DMR modes, transmits at 5 to 50 watts, and holds 256 channels across 16 zones.

The walkie talkie is fitted with a 1.5-inch, four-line LCD display, which shows channel names and other device settings. The Hyt MD622i VHF housing complies with protection class IP54 and the MIL-STD-810 C–G standard, indicating a high level of resistance to external influences.

AXDIGITAL offers two versions of the device: the standard MD622i-V1 and the MD622i-BT-V1 with built-in Bluetooth. Full detailed description MD612i and specifications are listed below.

Why Professionals Choose the Hytera MD622i VHF Mobile Radio

The Hytera MD622i is a vehicle-mounted mobile radio measuring 164 × 43 × 150 mm and weighing 1,100 g (2.4 lb), which is powered by the vehicle’s 13.6 V electrical system. The radio can be installed in two ways: either in the dashboard or on the BRK29 bracket.

This model of car radio supports 256 channels spread across 16 zones. The extended number of channels is useful for organisations serving multiple sites or those with departments or talk groups. The 16 zones allow related channels to be grouped together, enabling users to switch between groups without having to scroll through a single long list.

The radio’s transmission power ranges from 5 to 50 watts. The higher the power output, the further the signal travels; therefore, on the VHF band, a 50-watt mobile radio can provide coverage over a large area or along a long route. In open terrain, the coverage radius can reach approximately 30 miles, depending on the antenna height, power output and other parameters (see more)>. The MD622i operates in both analogue and DMR digital modes and automatically detects each of these modes. The availability of these two modes allows for a gradual transition from analogue to DMR, whilst continuing to use both old and new radios. On DMR Tier II systems MD622i also supports pseudo-trunking and multi-site roaming, which share timeslots and hand the radio between sites to keep calls connected.

Hytera MD622i VHF Buttons and functional elements

For dispatch management and safety purposes, the device sends emergency signals at the touch of a button (labelled ‘EMERGENCY BUTTON’ on the diagram; the orange button in the top-left corner of the front panel). This model allows you to programme up to 10 text messages, and using the external POA134 GPS module and the GPS04 antenna, enables real-time location tracking. The GPS module is an optional extra for both versions of the Hyt MD622i (MD622i-V1 and MD622i-BT-V1).

Built to MIL-STD-810 C through G and rated IP54, it handles dust and splashing water and runs from −30 °C to +60 °C. Internal audio is rated 4 W, or 8 W through an external speaker, loud enough over engine and road noise. If your team uses wireless earpieces or a Bluetooth PTT ring, order the MD622i-BT-V1; the standard MD622i-V1 has no built-in Bluetooth. As a land mobile radio, the Hyt MD622i is FCC Part 90 equipment.

Best-Fit Industries for the MD622i

The MD622i's LCD, channel capacity, and 50 W VHF range line up with fleet operations that juggle multiple routes or talkgroups. Based on Hytera's stated applications, it fits best in:

  • Logistics & Transportation —towing, taxis, and delivery fleets, with dispatch, text messaging, and GPS tracking (POA134 + GPS04).
  • Education & Schools — school-bus transportation, with named channels and one-touch emergency alerts for drivers.
  • Construction — service and equipment vehicles across a site, with IP54 and MIL-STD-810 handling dust and vibration.
  • Healthcare — ambulance and EMT vehicles that need clear dispatch audio and priority emergency calls.
  • Security — patrol and service vehicles kept in contact with a base station

FCC Licensing and Compliance Support

Operating the MD622i on business or industrial frequencies in the United States requires an FCC license under Part 90 (the Land Mobile Radio Service). The license is tied to your organization and the specific frequencies you are authorized to use, not to the individual radio.

Before transmitting, an FCC-certified frequency coordinator assigns frequencies suited to your location and operation, which helps avoid interference with other licensed users nearby. Most business and industrial uses fall under Part 90 — including fleet, transportation, construction, security, and healthcare operations.

As an authorized Hytera dealer, AXDIGITAL supplies both the MD622i-V1 and MD622i-BT-V1 and helps customers understand Part 90 licensing and frequency coordination. We program each radio to your licensed frequencies and CTCSS/DMR settings before shipping, so units arrive ready to use.

The MD622i is FCC Part 90 equipment for land mobile operation in the 136–174 MHz VHF band. Contact our team to confirm licensing and coordination requirements for your fleet.

FAQ

What is the maximum range of the MD622i at 50 W?

There's no single number — real range depends on antenna height, how open the terrain is, and other factors affecting transmission distance. As a rough guide on open, flat ground: two vehicles talking directly to each other (simplex, radio to radio) usually reach about 10–20 miles. Talking from a vehicle to a base station with a tall, well-placed antenna reaches farther, because antenna height does more for range than extra power. And when the signal goes through a repeater on a high site, 30 miles or more is realistic.

Does the MD622i have GPS built in?

No. GPS is an external option — the POA134 GPS module plus the GPS04 antenna, ordered separately. Once added, it supports real-time location tracking for dispatch. If you don't need location data, the radio works normally without it.

How many channels does it hold, and does it run analog and digital?

The MD622i holds 256 channels across 16 zones and runs both analog and digital DMR, auto-detecting each mode. It operates on DMR Tier II conventional and repeater systems, with pseudo-trunking and multi-site roaming for larger networks.
