Can I use the AN0435H19 to replace a broken factory antenna, and will I need to retune the radio?
The antenna is passive and screws onto the radio's connector. Fitting it does not change the radio's programming, so you do not retune or reprogram anything. It works as a direct replacement when the band and connector match: 400–470 MHz UHF and the Hytera R-type connector. Check that both settings on your radio are correct before installing the new antenna.
On a belt-worn radio, what part of the stubby fails first, and how do I avoid damaging it?
The radiating element on a stubby rarely wears out. The connector is the usual weak point. Cross-threading or over-tightening damages it, so thread it on by hand and do not use tools.
